Custom sound recordings won't play in Asterisk

SOLUTION

Asterisk is a little picky about the sound file recordings that you use when adding custom prompts to your Asterisk PBX. If you have a self-recorded file, follow these instructions to get working custom prompts:

1. Transfer the files to a Linux system, whether that may be a local workstation or your Asterisk VPS.

2. Run the sox command with the following syntax:

# sox filename.wav -r 8000 -c 1 -w newfilename.wav resample -ql

3. The resulting file can now be uploaded into the appropriate sound directory or via the open source PBX GUI.
